Kansas Lavender Harvest

Fragrant lavender is known for its calm, soothing properties. Here are some other fun facts about this hardy perennial:

  • Lavender is related to rosemary and both are part of the mint family.
  • Lavender attracts bees and butterflies, and repels mosquitoes.
  • Lavender can be used as an antiseptic for cuts, as a headache remedy and to help relieve indigestion.

It’s also delicious to cook with!

Get up-close-and-personal with this aromatic plant at the 11th Annual Lavender Harvest at Prairie Lavender Farm, north of Salina. Prairie Lavender Farm started in 2002 and they grow 12 varieties, which they use to make various products.

Each year they welcome people to the farm to celebrate the harvest. This year’s harvest festival will feature:

  • Tours
  • Demonstrations
  • Artists
  • Live music

Plus, you’ll have a chance to buy some lavender goodies, including handmade items and snacks like lavender tea, ice cream and sandwiches.

The cost is $5 per person, and children under 6 are admitted free. Pets are not allowed.
